As good a season as Kent Bottenfield had with the Cardinals last year, he didn’t throw a shutout. In fact, Bottenfield had never pitched a shutout in his career, until he threw one at the Cardinals yesterday. Bottenfield pitched a five-hitter, and Philadelphia beat St. Louis 6-0. Bobby Abreau, Mike Lieberthal, and Pat Burrell each drove in two runs for the Phillies. St. Louis rookie starter Britt Reames lasted just 4 innings and allowed 4 runs, though just two were earned. Reames is in the Cardinals rotation in place of Andy Benes, who was placed on the disabled list over the weekend. The Cardinals host the Pirates tonight.
