A couple of women who embezzled about $1.6 million dollars from a Kansas City bank have been told they have to pay it all back and serve 30 months in federal prison. Evelyn Morgan and Helen Harris worked together for ten years at what is now Bank of America in Westport, taking the money directly out of the bank’s vault and falsifying records. The head of the FBI in Kansas City calls their scheme “remarkable.” It did not come to light, despite several audits and three ownership changes of the bank, until the women, feeling guilty, notified federal prosecutors what they’d been doing.
