Stephenson Beats Cubs for 13th Win

August 16, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Garrett Stephenson kept the Cubs off balance for seven innings and earned his 13th win, as the Cards beat Chicago 4-2. Stephenson allowed six hits and two runs, and then got relief help from Matt Morris and Dave Veres. Veres got the final out for his 20th save. Mike Matheny had three hits and an RBI. Ray Lankford, Fernando Tatis and Edgar Renteria also drove in runs. The Cardinals continue to struggle with men on base. They stranded 12 runners. The Reds lost last night, so St. Louis leads by 5 and 1/2 games. They play another afternoon game today at Wrigley Field.
