Rams Lose Game, Gain Bruce

August 15, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Rams coach Mike Martz says his team wasn’t ready to play. It showed. Tennessee rolled over the Rams in a preseason rematch of the Super Bowl, by a final of 30-3. Kurt Warner played only one series and didn’t complete a pass. Marshall Faulk carried just three times for 13 yards. In the first half, when most of the starters played, the Titans outscored the Rams 13-3. St. Louis turned the ball over four times. The Rams lost defensive lineman Jeff Zgonina to a sprained knee and ankle, he could be out for a while. The bigger news for the Rams, is that Isaac Bruce will be around for a long time. Bruce has signed a 7-year deal worth 42-million dollars. He will get an 11.5-million dollar signing bonus. Bruce’s deal is in the neighborhood of those signed by other top receivers, including Keyshawn Johnson and Marvin Harrison. The agreement does not leave the Rams with much room under this year’s salary cap to renegotiate with defensive end Kevin Carter.
