Sammy Sosa hit his league-leading 37th home run, and the Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-3. It was the bottom of the Cubs lineup that put four runs on the board against Andy Benes in the 4th inning, wiping out a 2-0 St. Louis lead. The Cubs hadn’t scored in their previous 25 innings, but number 8 hitter Jeff Huson, and pitcher Jon Lieber hit back-to-back doubles, driving in three runs. Sosa launched his mammoth home run in the 5th. Benes hasn’t won in his last six starts. Lieber has won six straight. He went six innings, allowing three runs, to improve to 11-5. Will Clark had two hits for the Cardinals, scored twice and drove in a run. This afternoon at Wrigley, Garrett Stephenson will start for the Cards against Jamie Arnold.
