First-string, second-string, rookies, it didn’t really matter. The Chiefs did not play well in any faze, and were trounced by the new-look San Francisco 49ers 33-10 in their second exhibition game. The Chiefs trailed 30-0 at halftime. Backup Warren Moon played the two middle quarters at quarterback and drove the Chiefs to their ten points. He hit Larry Parker with a 25-yard touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter. Moon completed 12 of 19 passes for 113 yards with one TD and one interception. The 49ers scored on their first five possessions, repeatedly burning the Kansas City secondary. Chiefs QB Elvis Grbac was 4 of 9 passing for 34 yards. Among the bright spots for the Chiefs, rookie running back Frank Moreau gained 41 yards on 8 carries in the 2nd half. Punter Todd Sauerbrun dropped two punts in side the 20. Rookie receiver Sylvester Morris entered the game late in the first half and caught a pass for 13 yards. It wasn’t a happy return for Kimble Anders. In his first game since suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon last year, Anders fumbled a handoff.
