Downtown St. Louis in the dark

August 11, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Still scores of businesses in downtown St. Louis with no power. A spectacular fire last night just across the river in Venice, Illinois, destroyed part of an AmerenUE power plant. It knocked out power to 8,000 people near the plant and in the city of St. Louis along Tucker, Washington, and Market Streets. AmerenUE spokesman Mike Cleary says they hope to have the remaining customers back on-line late this afternoon. They’re still investigating a cause.
