Mike Sweeney belted a three-run homer in the 3rd inning, and Jeff Suppan made it stand up as the Royals beat Toronto 5-3. Sweeney’s home run gave the Royals a 4-2 lead, and Kansas City added a 4th run in the inning on Todd Dunwoody’s single. Suppan allowed 11 hits in 8 plus innings, but didn’t walk anybody. He needed relief help from Tim Byrdak and Andy Larkin after allowing a run in the 9th. Suppan has won 4 straight to improve to 6-6, and the Royals have won 4 of their last 5. The Royals and Jays play the finale of their four-game series this afternoon. Brian Meadows will make his first start for the Royals against Blue Jays ace David Wells. Wells is 17-4 with a 3.85 ERA.
