Congressional squeaker prompts recount

August 10, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

There’s going to be a recount in Missouri’s Second Congressional District in St. Louis County following Todd Akin’s 56-vote margin of victory over Gene McNary in Tuesday’s Republican primary. Rules covering the close contest in the Second Congressional District are the same for any election in Missouri. If the margin of victory is less than 1% of the total number of votes cast, the second place finisher has a right to have the ballots recounted. The results from this vote, which falls within the allowable margin, should be certified in the next two to three weeks.
