Democrat Steve Gaw has survived a scare to win his party’s nomination for Secretary of State. Gaw, the Speaker of the Missouri House, barely won his primary battle against truck-driver James Askew, a perennial statewide candidate. Gaw shrugged off suggestions he should have won by a wider margin. Gaw got just short of 200,000 votes in the primary, or 53% of the vote to Askew’s nearly 170,000.
