Spotlight on Republican Lt. Gov. candidates

August 7, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

It’s been one of the Republican Party’s hotly-contested state-wide races — the quest for the nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Joe Ortwerth and Wendell Bailey have been traveling the state in search of votes. Ortwerth says he’s learned a lot being on the road. He says he has focused his campaign on grass-roots effort instead of fund-raising. Ortwerth says he is the pick of conservative republicans. Bailey says he’s the choice of what he calls mainstream Republicans, but insists he’s no slouch when it comes to being conservative. Bailey says “many, many, many” of Missouri’s conservatives will vote for him based on his voting record.
