After a long rain delay, the Yankees rallied with a run in the eighth and one more in the ninth to beat the Royals 3-2. Kansas City helped New York’s cause. The tying run in the 8th scored when second baseman Carlos Febles dropped a pop up in right field after a long run, allowing Scott Brosius to score from first with two outs. In the ninth, Jerry Spradlin walked the leadoff man, and after a groundout moved him up, Paul O’Neill singled home the winning run. Spradlin took the loss, allowing just one hit but two walks in 1 and 1/3 innings. Both men he walked scored. The game didn’t end until nearly 1 a.m. central time.
