Royals Suspend Beltran

August 4, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals have suspended center fielder Carlos Beltran without pay for 30 days. Beltran does not want to report to the team’s facility in Baseball City, Florida to rehab his injured knee. Beltran says he can get better treatment in Kansas City and still be with his teammates. The Royals say it’s team policy that players rehab in Florida. The team says it will end the suspension when Beltran reports, or in 30 days whichever comes first. Beltran’s agent says the union will appeal. The pay issue is moot really. If the players union files a default notice, the Royals must pay Beltran or he will become a free agent. General manager Allard Baird says they won’t let that happen.
