More dissent on nuke shipments

August 4, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

An environmental group joins the chorus of those calling on the Department of Energy to drop plans to ship nuclear wastes through the state. The latest group to protest the shipment of spent fuel across Missouri is the Missouri Coalition for the Environment. Spokesman Roy Hengerson says the group doesn’t care for the federal government’s decision to ship high-level radioactive waste from nuclear power plants to Yucca Mountain. The governor and the state legislature have expressed their displeasure as well, but they have proposed the shipments travel across Iowa, a route taken in the past. Hengerson says his group doesn’t want them shipped at all.
