Governor Bush was under the gun to perform and Missouri representatives at the Republican convention say he did exactly that. Delegates say Bush was confident, well-composed, and had the presence of a man deserving of the presidency. At least one delegate, David Minick of Smithville, compared Bush to John Kennedy. Missouri delegates were unanimous–as they might be expected to be–that Bush gave a performance that shows he made of the stuff of presidents. Peggy Patterson of Kansas City concluded, Bush looked and talked like a future president.
