The Royals’ defense was frightening, as they booted the ball four times in an 8-5 loss to Tampa Bay. Even scarier was the injury to Jermaine Dye. Dye suffered a concussion when he slammed into the wall trying to catch a fly ball. He left the field on a cart and was taken to the hospital for tests. Dye will miss tonight’s game but should be okay to play tomorrow or Sunday. The Devil Rays scored 7 runs off Royals starter Chad Durbin in 5 and 1/3 innings, but four of the runs were unearned. Johnny Damon was 4 for 5, raising his average to .312, and he scored three times. Mike Sweeney had three hits and drove in two runs. Blake Stein will start for Kansas City tonight against Tampa Bay’s Bryan Rekar.
