Several dozen of President Clinton judicial appointments are still waiting in the wings. They’re waiting to be processed by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Many democrats say republicans on Capitol Hill are playing politics by unnecessarily delaying those appointments. Missouri Senator John Ashcroft is a member of that committee. He says the appointments are for lifetime tenures. Because of the duration, he thinks it is important the candidates are thoroughly reviewed by the FBI and that congress takes its time holding hearings. He calls the pace of confirmations, “steady.”
