Cunningham Working Chiefs Hard

July 25, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Chiefs coach Gunther Cunningham isn’t exactly easing his guys into the rigors of training camp. Cunningham put his boys through two grueling workouts yesterday, and finished off the second session with the up-tempo no-huddle offense. Cunningham says he plans to continue up-tempo workouts throughout training camp. Newcomers on the offensive line are having the most trouble catching up. Free agent signee Jeff Blackshear had to be pulled from some drills the other day. In the running back battle, Cunningham says Mike Cloud and rookie Frank Moreau have impressed him most so far. Rashaan Shehee missed Monday afternoon’s workout with headaches.Number one pick Sylvester Morris, a wide receiver, remains unsigned. The biggest sticking point in negotiations appears to be length of contract. The Chiefs want Morris to sign at least a five-year deal. Only six players taken in the first round of this year’s NFL draft are still unsigned. Chiefs coach Gunther Cunningham thinks Morris could catch up quickly if he gets in camp soon. Cunningham says Morris learned the offense already, and his position is simple.
