The Royals coughed up a big lead in Detroit, and lost 12-9. Kansas City had a six run lead in the 6th inning, but the bullpen blew up. Jerry Spradlin allowed five runs in 1/3 of an inning, as the Tigers scored six times in the 7th, to wipe out what had been a 9-3 deficit. The loss though, went to Tim Byrdak, who gave up a game-winning homer for the second straight game, this time to Bobby Higgonson. The Royals had won five straight before blowing a five-run lead Saturday night, and a six-run lead Sunday. Kansas City travels to Chicago to play the first place White Sox.
