Proposed pork plant prompts protests

July 24, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A company’s proposal to bring a pork processing plant and 2,300 jobs to St. Joseph is drawing a lot of opposition. The group Citizens Opposing Seaboard says Seaboard Farm’s proposal will bring unattractive, transient jobs to the area. Opponents are also worried the development will tax local schools and social service agencies. The group plans to protest tonight’s city council meeting in St. Joseph.
