Sprint calls off Worldcom deal

It’s over. The board of directors at Sprint and MCIWorldcom have officially called off their plan for a $129 billion dollar merger. Sprint spokesman Bill White says it was a purely business decision. White insists Sprint is not for sale. Sprint Chairman and CEO William Esrey was expected to hold a news conference today to discuss where the company goes next.
