Cards Hurting, But Reds Conceding

July 13, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Mark McGwire and J.D. Drew may not be ready to play when the Cardinals resume the season tonight in Chicago against the White Sox. McGwire is battling tendinitis in his knee, and Drew has a sprained ankle. Both could be headed for the disabled list before the Cardinals play tonight. If McGwire is healthy enough, the Cardinals could use him as a designated hitter, since their next six games are in American League parks. While nothing has been won just yet, the Cardinals enter the second half with an 8 game lead, and their closest competition may be giving up. The Cincinnati Reds have traded away pitcher Denny Neagle to the Yankees for four prospects. Neagle is 8-2 with a 3.52 ERA and had been the Reds best pitcher this year.
