Maggette Admits Piggie Paid Him

July 12, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Former Duke basketball player Corey Maggette has admitted that he received cash from Kansas City summer league coach Myron Piggie. Maggette’s admission could force Duke to forfeit its national runner-up finish in 1999. Duke may be required to pay the NCAA more than 225-thousand dollars in tournament revenue. Maggette had previously denied the allegation that he received money from Piggie, but made the admission in a sworn statement. Since Maggette has given the statement, the U.S. attorney in Kansas City has withdrawn a request to have Maggette testify about the payments. Magette’s admission may result in a longer jail sentence for Piggie, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax fraud.
