Local tourist tax approved

July 4, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A new tourist sales tax could soon be added to several communities in the state. The governor has signed legislation to allow voters to decide on the tax. State Representative Sam Berkowitz, one of the sponsors, says it will help communities inundated by tourists with needed road improvements. Some of the money could also be used for ads promoting local communities. It would not be enacted unless voters in the city or county wanting the extra tax money approved it.
