Tenants look for new homes

June 30, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The Red Cross is scrambling to find new homes for three dozen people evacuated from a dilapidated Kansas City apartment building. There is some question now about whether those residents will ever be allowed to return home. Fire officials forced the families out of the former Emerson Hotel after declaring the apartments unsafe. Inspectors found blocked exits, broken smoke detectors and trash littering the building. It is home to forty poor and transient tenants. Linda Foster with the Kansas City area Red Cross says workers have plenty to do.
