State lottery players have lost a record amount of money in this fiscal year. But their losses are education’s gain. The lottery has contributed almost $156 million dollars to education in Missouri in this fiscal year. Lottery director Jim Scroggins says the recent record state lotto jackpot and the introduction of the lottery’s first $5 scratchers game helped set the record. 30% of each lottery dollar goes to education.
