Larry Sutton was sent to the minors on Saturday. On Sunday, he won the game for the Cardinals. Sutton’s single drove home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 win over the Dodgers, and a sweep of the weekend series. Rookie pitcher Rick Ankiel matched Dodger ace Kevin Brown, as each allowed one run. Ankiel allowed four hits and five walks in seven innings. Heathcliff Slocumb pitched two innings of relief for the win. Sutton was sent down Saturday to make room for Eduardo Perez, but Perez pulled his hamstring in his only at-bat. The Cardinals caught Sutton before he left town, and told him to return to the team Sunday. The Cardinals now lead the Reds by 8 and 1/2 games as they travel to Cincinnati to play the Reds in four games, starting tonight.
