MO gas tax questioned

June 24, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Indiana and Illinois are planning to suspend temporarily the state sales tax on gasoline to help soften the blow of high pump prices. But we shouldn’t expect that here. Jeff Briggs of the Missouri Department of Transportation says that while Illinois and Indiana have sales taxes that increase when the price of gas goes up, Missouri has no sales tax–only a set 17 cent per gallon tax. And Briggs says even with the 17 cent levy, Missouri still has one of the lowest per gallon gas taxes in the nation.
