Huntsville mourns councilman

June 23, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The city of Huntsville has taken a double hit with the shooting death of jailer Leon Egley. He not only was a jailer, he was a city councilman. Huntsville Mayor Carl Gordy says Egley always worked for a better community and was very concerned about jail security. Gordy calls the incident one of the saddest days in city history. He says Egley was a good man and a community leader. Egley and deputy Jason Acton were killed early Thursday during a failed jailbreak.
