Jim Edmonds starred with the bat and the glove, as the Cardinals beat San Francisco 7-2. After Giant Ellis Burks homered in the second inning, Edmonds homered in the third to tie the game at 2. He then climbed the wall in the fourth to take away another home run from Burks. Edmonds singled home the tie-breaking run in the fifth, and Craig Paquette followed with a three-run homer. Rick Ankiel pitched six innings allowing just three hits with eight strikouts. He is now 5-0 at Busch Stadium this year. Alan Benes pitched two innings of scoreless relief before the game was halted in the ninth inning because of rain. The Cards have won 7 of their last 8, and lead the Reds by 6 and 1/2 games. Garrett Stephenson, who is 9-2, will pitch for St. Louis tonight against the Giants’ Kirk Rueter, who’s 4-4.
