Protest locks down new prison

June 20, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Things are back to normal today at the state correctional facility in St. Joseph after a lockdown yesterday. It started after a peaceful protest involving about 200 inmates. Department of Corrections Spokesman Tim Kniest says the inmates are back doing their regular routines after presenting a list of grievances to prison officials. Prisoners were upset over what they see as slow mail service and poor access to probation and parole officers. The prison only opened last September.
