43% of the paper used in our newspapers in Missouri has been through the presses before.State law encourages use of recycled newsprint in 50% of the publications in Missouri; publishers reached 43% last year. Ten publications have 100% recycled content. The Natural Resources Department keeps track of how much recycled newsprint is used. DNR figures more than 87,000 tons of recycled newsprint were used by Missouri publications last year. DNR spokesman Phil Tremblay says recycled newsprint is the same quality as the original stuff.
