The CART racing series will not return to St. Louis next year, but the Indy Racing League will step in to take its place. The IRL has unveiled its schedule for 2001, which includes stops near Kansas City and St. Louis. CART announced last week that it was dropping oval track races, which includes Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis. CART has run at Gateway the past three years, and will run there this September 17th. The IRL will stage a race at Gateway on August 26th, 2001, and will visit Kansas Speedway outside of Kansas City on July 8th next year.
