Missourians unhappy with their HMO now have one less avenue open to them should they with to sue their healthcare provider. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled patients can no longer sue under a federal law for giving doctors financial bonuses for hold down the costs of treatment. Kansas City lawyer Paul Kavanaugh says there IS a state law that’s open to those wanting to sue. Governor Carnahan signed a bill into law allowing people access to the courts over H-M-O dissatisfaction. But Kavanaugh says the law is new and still untested.
