St. Louisan McGehee a Close Second

June 12, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

St. Louisan Robbie McGehee missed winning yesterday’s Indy Racing League contest in Fort Worth, Texas, by the smallest margin in the history of the IRL. McGehee finished second to Scott Sharp by 59 one thousands of a second, as Sharp edged him at the finish line. McGehee and Sharp ran the last seven laps side by side and nose to tail, before Sharp emerged from the final turn in front of McGehee and held on for the win. The race was also the fastest in IRL history, as Sharp averaged 169.182 miles an hour, breaking the record set by Juan Montoya at last month’s Indianapolis 500.
