J.D. Drew led the Cardinal comeback, Andy Benes held Kansas City at bay, and former Royals Larry Sutton drove home the winner, as the Cardinals beat the Royals 5-4. Kansas City scored four runs with five straight hits in the 3rd inning, but Benes pitched shutout ball after that. Drew hit a solo home run to make it 4-2 in the 4th and a two-run shot to tie the game in the 5th. In the 7th, Jim Edmonds led off with a double, Eric Davis moved him to third with a ground ball to the right side, and Sutton, who is up from the minor leagues filling in for Mark McGwire, drove in the run with a sacrifice fly. Benes worked into the 8th before getting help from Dave Veres, who earned his 10th save. Joe Randa had three hits for the Royals, and Mike Sweeney drove in two runs. The rubber game tonight moved has an early start time, at 6pm. The Cards will again be without McGwire, Fernando Vina and Ray Lankford, all nursing hamstring injuries.
