Watch out for lovelorn turtles the next couple of months. Boxturtles not only cross rural highways this time of year in search of love. Many are sunning themselves to help their digestion. Box turtles andseveral other turtle species use solar heat to raise their body temperaturesenough to make digestion more efficient. Conservation Department spokeswoman Arleasha Mays admonishes turtle lovers to be careful if they hope to rescue one of thecritters; and if you get them off the road, take them 15 feet on the otherside…and point them away from danger.
