After finishing as the state runner-up in basketball, DeSmet captured the 4A baseball title over the weekend, beating Lafayette 9-3. DeSmet won the title with a record of 24-4, and winning pitcher Bob Zimmermann finished 10-1. Liberty beat Joplin 5-1 in the 3rd place game. Jefferson City Helias won the 3A title, beating Carl Junction 6-1. Helias finishes the year 25-2. Francis Howell Central defeated Festus for 3rd place, 3-1
