Governor Mel Carnahan has signed into law legislation that aims to end racial profiling in police traffic stops. It’s hoped this will be accomplished through the gathering of information on those stops. This record keeping could give police officers and departments the opportunity to demonstrate there is no pattern of racial profiling. Or it could point to cases where profiling exists and give authorities the chance to deal with the problem. The law takes effect August 28th.
