The Cardinals lost a tough one to Clevleand 3-2, to lose their first interleague series of the year. Matt Morris was saddled with the loss after he allowed a run in the eighth. Morris had pitched two and two-thirds innings without incident, but a walk, a double and an infield single gave the Indians the win. Rick Ankiel struck out a career high 11 in five innings, but allowed a pair of solo home runs to Richie Sexson and Kenny Lofton. Lofton’s was the first home run Ankiel has ever allowed to a left-handed batter. The Indians set a club record by striking out 16 times. Jim Edmonds homered and scored both Cardinal runs, but the Cardinals stranded eleven baserunners. Tonight, they host the Kansas City Royals. Pat Hentgen will pitch against Mac Suzuki.
