A military base closing can be devastating to the communities losing their army, navy, or air force facility. But if a visit to Whiteman Air Force Base by General Hugh Shelton – the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs – is any indication of the future, things look rosy for the communities around that base. General Shelton pointed out that while there will be more closings in the coming years and that all bases must be considered, Whiteman is serving an important role in the defense of the United States and is truly one of the country’s great military facilities.
