Spradlin Saves Royals from Red Sox Rally

June 1, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Mike Sweeney had four hits, and the Royals survived another rocky outing from the bullpen to beat Boston 9-7. Royals starter Mac Suzuki allowed just two runs over seven innings, and left the game with a 9-2 lead, but Ricky Bottalico allowed five runs in the 8th, to let the Red Sox pull within two. Jerry Spradlin got the Royals out of the 8th, and pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Sweeney, Johnny Damon, and Dave McCarty each drove in a pair of runs, and McCarty hit his 7th home run. Suzuki improved to 2-0 on the season. The Royals send Chris Fussell to the mound tonight against Boston’s Ramon Martinez.
