US House Votes to Honor Truman

May 29, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A memorial to Missouri’s favorite son is being established in Washington DC. The US House has voted unanimously to name the State Department Building in Washington after President Harry S Truman. Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt tells colleagues Truman always stressed foreign policy must be driven by our convictions about peace, justice and freedom. West-Central Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton says Truman guided the US away from an established pattern of isolation toward assistance to Europe. Northwest Missouri Congresswoman Pat Danner points to Truman’s humility, best demonstrated when he left Washington and returned to Independence.
