Swarm Wins IBL Championship

May 23, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Former Mizzou star Doug Smith has a championship to add to his resume. Smith scored 35 points and led the St. Louis Swarm to a 117-107 win over the Richmond Rhythm, and the International Basketball League title. The Swarm rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter. St. Louis guard Marcus Bullard made a three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to tie the game at 101. Smith drilled a couple threes in overtime, and the league’s MVP finished with 35 points and ten rebounds. The Swarm swept the Rhythm in three games in the title series, and won all ten meetings between the teams this season.
