Danner Decision Shocks Democrats

May 23, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Even the top man in the State Democratic Party was caught off guard by the withdrawal of Congresswoman Pat Danner for re-election. State Democratic Committee Executive Director Roy Temple was in Los Angeles preparing for the National Democratic Convention when he learned the news. Temple says the announcement came as a shock. And Temple expresses confidence Democrats can retain the seat. Danner first won election to the 6th Congressional District of northwest Missouri in 1992, beating incumbent Republican Tom Coleman who had held the seat for 16 years. Temple says he has not been given any reason for Danner’s withdrawal.
