Quigley Holds off Watson Comeback

May 22, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

With the gallery roaring its approval, Tom Watson made an amazing charge in the Senior tour event in Kansas City, but Dana Quigley held him off for the win. Watson trailed leader Jim Colbert by five strokes at the turn, but Colbert faded down the stretch, while Watson went on a tear of eight birdies in ten holes. Watson went to the final hole trailing Quigley by one shot, and nearly holed his approach for an eagle, but settled for a tap-in birdie. Quigley calmly dropped in a 12-foot birdie putt for eagle to win the tournament by one stroke. Watson shot a final round 63 to finish 16 under.
