Mark McGwire hit another home run, and utility man Placido Polanco led the Cardinals over the Pirates, 7-5. McGwire hit his 18th homer of the year, to give the Cards a 2-0 lead in the first. Polanco drove in three runs with two singles and a triple, and raised his average to .379. Andy Benes allowed three runs in seven innings to get the win, improving to 4-2. The Cards took two out of three from Pittsburgh, and have regained sole possession of first place, by one game over Cincinnati. The Cards are off today and host the Marlins Tuesday.
