Swarm’s Smith Named MVP

May 18, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Former Mizzou star Doug Smith will lead the St. Louis Swarm into a championship series tonight after being named the most valuable player in the International Basketball League. Smith averaged 13.4 points and 8.2 rebounds in leading the Swarm to the best regular season record in the IBL. The Swarm are heavy favorites in the finals against the Richmond Rhythm. Richmond finished just 23-41 in the regular season, but has caught fire in the playoffs, pulling two upsets to reach the finals. The Swarm beat the Rhythm in all seven meetings this year. The first two games of the best of five series are tonight and tomorrow at Family Arena in St. Charles.
