Midway through the high school golf championships, the top five teams in Class 4A are separated by only three strokes. Defending champ Rockhurst leads after an opening round of 310. Chaminade trails by a stroke, Blue Springs is two strokes back, and DeSmet and St. Joseph Central are three strokes behind. Ian Benedict of Blue Springs shot one under par 69 to take a five stroke league in the individual race. In Class 3A, Eldon leads by five strokes over St. Francis Borgia. Maryville has a two stroke league in Class 2A, and Gallatin has a commanding 16 stroke advantage in Class 1A. The final round is being played today.
