Royals starter Chris Fussell rolled into the sixth inning with the lead, but the wheels fell off. Oakland scored five times in the sixth, and beat the Royals 6-3. Oakland’s Randy Velarde started the sixth with a home run. After the next two hitters reached, Jose Santiago relieved and retired the first two men he faced. But Miguel Tejada and Eric Chavez launched back-to-back home runs, making it 6-3 A’s. Mark Quinn drove in a pair of runs for the Royals. He played right field in place of Jermaine Dye, who sat out with a tight back. The Royals send Chad Durbin to the hill this afternoon. They have lost four of their last five.
